A Port Authority, were engaged by a lithium processing business to commence the holding of Spodumene, an important source of Lithium for mobile phones, automotive batteries etc.
The shed that was available didn't have a sound concrete base slab within it which was a requirement of the client as they would need to run loaders in and out for the handling process. Although spodumene is a non-toxic powder once broken down, the EPA were looking for a long-lasting, maintenance-free, durable option that would give flexibility to house several different items should they need to in the future.
Xypex Australia put forward the use of Xypex C-5000 Admix which would offer all the protection requirements they'd need now and for the life of the concrete, which was backed by independent test reports and data. Based on the provided reports and data, the client then proposed a reduction of the original design slab thickness. This was approved by the Port and by doing this it became a very cost-effective way of delivering a very durable slab. Xypex C-5000 was specified into 17,500 m2 of concrete and will now be the first option for future slabs at the port.
