Project Overview: Kingscliff Foreshore Revitalisation – Stage 1 Seawall

Kingscliff Foreshore Revitalisation – Stage 1 Seawall

Due to exposure to an extremely aggressive marine environment, engineers specified concrete to be of low permeability to chloride ion penetration to reduce the risk of corrosion to embedded reinforcement. As part of the performance spec, the majority of marine grade concrete, including precast elements to be cast below the waterline, were treated with Xypex's High Performance Admix Solutions to significantly enhance the durability and extend the service life of this high-profile structure.

Specialist consultation was provided by Xypex Australia's Technical Department, with a view to provide significant extension of life of the asset for the Council considering the aggressive marine tidal/splash zone exposure. Our aim was to provide a solution that significantly mitigated ongoing maintenance costs. A whole of life approach was adopted, with a view to provide a robust system without extensive ongoing maintenance. Our high-performance Permeability Reducing Admixtures were welcome here, as they removed the construction timeline delays, risks associated with human application error and the significant application cost associated with physical barrier systems that are often adopted in these environments.
