The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) Project, incorporating building partners Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The University of Melbourne, is delivering a $1 billion facility, purpose built for cancer research, treatment, care and education.
Sustainable Construction and limiting the permeability of concrete to combat varying physical, chemical and environmental factors were paramount for the design team.
Xypex Admix C-1000 NF was specified, for waterproofing and durability, into all below ground concrete including 4 levels of basement car-parking. The Xypex construction joint system, Xypex Concentrate and Kuniseal C-31 DS was also utilised.
The VCCC Project includes Research Labs capable of accommodating up to 1,200 researchers, 160 overnight inpatient cancer beds, a 42-bed capacity, Intensive Care Unit,110 same-day beds, eight radiation therapy bunkers, eight Operating Theatres and two procedure rooms, as well as education and traiing facilities.
